Webinar description
Localization (and globalization) can be among the most important strategic initiatives an organization undertakes, yet responsibility for localization often falls to whoever "isn't busy" (or perhaps whoever doesn't look busy is more accurate). At localization industry functions, the most common denominator among localization professionals seems to be that nobody starts out meaning to work in localization, but everyone somehow ends up in localization, loves it, and feels somewhat sheepish about how it all happened.
The good news, obviously, is that people who find themselves in localization usually find it richly rewarding and full of interesting challenges. The bad news is that getting started, since it's often by accident, is often confusing and overwhelming, and the journey from beginner to seasoned professional involves a bumpy road with many forks. Unfortunately, it's a journey that takes some time and ingenuity, and most organizations need that journey to be completed overnight. In the meantime, projects are piling up and work needs to get done.
Fortunately, there are many growth strategies available to someone just getting started, and there are many support resources available to professionals at every stage in their development. This presentation considers some of the options for both short-term survival and long-term program management in the context of big-picture staff development and career planning.
